Dear All
This is a copy of the letter emailed over this week regarding next weeks Field Day (which involves years 10-13 and takes over the academic day - hence the need for a trip!).
Shiplake College, History Department 9/10/09
Dear Parents,
The year 7 History curriculum focuses on Medieval History beginning in 1066. An important part of this study is examining how William the Conqueror used castles to secure his power in England. We will also study the development of castles throughout the medieval period and the boys will have the opportunity to build and destroy their own castles! We are very fortunate to be a 30 minute drive away from Windsor Castle, originally built by William the Conqueror, and on Tuesday 20th October Tom Caston and I will take the year 7 boys on a tour of Windsor castle.
This trip has been planned to coincide with CCF day so the boys will not miss lessons. The trip will leave, by minibus and car, at 09:00 and will return by 13:00. The afternoon activity will be a football fixture away to the Dolphin School, Hurst. This will begin at 15.00.
Boys should arrive for school at normal time and wear full school uniform due to the afternoon football fixture. However, depending on the weather I would suggest bringing a waterproof coat.
There is no added cost for this trip.
Please contact me with any queries at: scanehardy@shiplake.org
Kind Regards,
Simon Cane-Hardy
Head of History
