The boys in Shiplake College’s Lower School approached Mr Caston, their Housemaster, with a desire to help some of the charity initiatives that they had come across during this term’s studies. All 18 boys had agreed that they wanted to help Wateraid, Superhero Eye Care in Mongolia and Kanjanji Orphanage in Zambia.
Persuading their parents to bake cakes the boys have set up break-time cake stalls to feed the masses. Huge queues greeted their array of cakes and muffins on the first morning nearly raising £70, enough to provide 70 children with a meal at Kanjaji Oprhanage.
Raffle tickets, sold at 10 pence per ticket to College members to win a rugby ball autographed by the Wasps Squad or Abercormbie and Fitch T-Shirts, are building takings. The boys are optimistic that they will achieve their other targets of purchasing a retinscope for Mongolia and a toilet block for Wateraid to install in a Third World School.
